Orchestral Divisions
- Capriccio Strings
- Junior Strings
- Wind Ensemble
- Intermezzi Orchestra
- Symphony Orchestra
See our Audition Section (top menu) for information about the playing standards required for each division.
Students from the Intermezzi and Symphony are welcome to participate in the chamber groups which are organized at the beginning of the season where playing abilities and instrument combinations are matched. Our chamber music program includes bi-weekly rehearsals with one of the musical staff members, and several performances during the year. Several of our chamber groups are quite active in the musical community, and are available to entertain at special functions.
Performance
Each division performs regularly throughout the year, and performance i s an integral part of our program. We perform at various locations in Delta, Richmond and Vancouver during the concert season. We feature all-division concerts twice per year involving all our students, as well a “classical cabaret” fund raising concert involving special guests. We also have concerts for the symphony division and concerts for our chamber music and other orchestras.
Concerto Competition
Each year the Delta Symphony Society sponsors a Concerto Competition for members of the DYO to participate in. Students from the Junior, Wind, Intermezzi and Symphony may participate. A winner is chosen for each division and those students are then selected to perform a concerto with one of the orchestras. Students receiving honourable mention may be given this opportunity as well, if programming permits.
