Orchestral Divisions

Symphony Orchestra

This ensemble is a full symphony introducing winds brass and percussion   Musicians are recommended to be at Grade VII RCM level and above, sectional leaders and principle players must be at a higher level.   Entrance into the ensemble is by audition only. Orchestral seating is by audition only.  All members must be taking private lessons on their orchestral instrument. Students also will participate in an intensive chamber music and sectional rehearsal program designed to train young musicians in orchestra performance.  Please see our audition guidelines for playing requirements.

Music Director - Stephen Robb

Repertoire - Repertoire will focus on classical and romantic repertoire for full orchestra. 2008-09 repertoire included Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss, Arriaga and other composers.  

 


Intermezzi Strings

This is a String Orchestra with an emphasis on works from the Baroque and Classical Period. This is for young string players RCM Grades V - VIII depending on age and maturity

Repertoire -   this ensemble will explore the repertoire for String chamber orchestra in baroque and classical styles. Works by Mozart, Haydn, Bach, Correlli, and Vivaldi




Wind Ensemble

This is an intermediate level ensemble for wind, brass and percussion players in the orchestral training program. This ensemble provides training in playing in a wind group where there are only one or two players on a part. Members in this division may also be in the Symphony orchestra in some cases.

Junior Strings

Members of the Junior Strings have previous ensemble experience.  Members are now playing basic string orchestra repertoire. RCM level Grades III - VI.

Capriccio Strings (Pre-Junior Strings)

This is our introductory ensemble designed for young players and their first    experience in playing in a group. Members are required to read music and have basic technical skills before joining. Entrance into the ensemble is determined by a placement audition.

Chamber Music

Many of our students in both the Intermezzi strings and symphony participate in chamber music or small ensembles. These ensembles give players experience playing music that only has one or two members per part. This helps develop a good sense of ensemble and a feel for playing music with others.
